Sometimes I feel like regular bread can be a little boring, since it doesn’t taste like much other than… Bread. So, here’s a recipe to spice this up! Another upside about these buns are that they are yellow! Really in love with this natural color from the turmeric (also perfect for halloween)
The buns are both nice as breakfast or as a side to for example soup
The dough will have a quite sticky consistency, so don’t worry if it doesn’t look like your normal kneadable bread dough!
The buns in the pictures are smeared with peanut butter and sprinkled with hagelslag, inspired by the country I am in at the moment (the Netherlands).
Vegan Spicy Buns
Ingredients
- 25 g fresh yeast
- 8 dl water
- 200 g spelled flour
- 600 g wheat flour
- 3 tbsp turmeric (15 g)
- ½ tbsp cumine
- 20 g salt
- 200 g pumpkin seeds
Instructions
- Crumble the yeast in a large bowl
- Mix water and yeast until the yeast has dissolved
- Mix flour, turmeric, cumine, and salt
- Add the flour mixture to the yeast water stir until the dough is uniform
- Fold in the pumpkin seeds
- Let the dough rest for 10 min
- Use a spoon to turn the dough all the way around the edge of the bowl
- Let the dough rest for 10 min
- Repeat point 6 and 7 two more times
- Let the dough rest in the fridge overnight (you can also choose to let it sit on the kitchen counter for a couple of hours instead)
- Use a spoon to put pieces of dough the size of small buns on a baking paper
- Bake for 15-20 minutes at 210°C in the oven
